Google is buying old factory from Stora Enso. Old factory is
located in Finland, Hamina.
It's old paper factory which makes things interesting. What's
Google up-to with this purchase in small Finland.
Just guessing, but maybe a new server-facility to serve eastern
Europe and Russia. Sounds a better place than Russia itself!
What ever Google will do with these empty paper factory
buildings, fact that in Finland Google has only few employers
makes this interesting. And of course location near Russia which
is a big market, and Google has only one datacenter there (that
is what I found from Internet, Google is pretty silent about
their datacenter locations) .
The whole deal is
about 40million Euros.
Stora Enso said in it's
press report that Google will announce it's plans about this
factory later. So lets wait and look.
Update:
02.12.2009
Google has confirmed that they are planning new datacenter to
these facilities. Similar than they are building to Belgia.
Maybe this will bring some R&D to Finland, because it's almost
only country in Eastern Europe with only Google sales office.
